Which Movie Moustache Will You Grow This Movember?

Adam Fay,

Movember is our favourite time of the year. We can put down the razor and let the upper lip fur do its thang. It’s the only time your face raises funds and awareness for an incredibly important cause – Men’s Health.

Whatever you call yours…a lip rug, crumb catcher, face furniture, flavour saver, snot mop, mouth brow or nose neighbour.. it’s not too late to get started. Head on over to the Movember website to find out more.

If you need some inspiration on what style to shape your lip-cap this month, check out our video above.

Here’s some more ideas from memorable movie moustaches.

The Mercury-stache

As worn by: Rami Malek in Bohemian Rhapsody

Otherwise known as the “Chevron” or the “Rectangle” moustache. It’s masculine and a little bit “bikie gang” all in one. It has a sort of rugged charm, but from all reports is surprisingly tricky to manage. Electric trimmer, tweezers and the ability to shape is highly recommended.

The Walrus-stache

As worn by: Sam Elliot in The Big Lebowski

If you’re like us, you probably couldn’t keep your eyes off this wonder of nature throughout Sam Elliot’s scenes in The Big Lebowski. The Walrus moustache is a favourite amongst cowboys and those from the Wild West, but it’s been spotted quite frequently adorning the upper lip of hipsters the world over.

A nice mo for lazy guys who just want to relax and let things grow and grow and grow….it also gives off a “wise man” vibe.

The Creep-stache

As worn by: Matt Dillon in There’s Something About Mary

Otherwise known as the “Pencil” or the “Barely There Caterpillar”. Some have called this style both suave and debonair…but we call it more awkward and creepy! Best captured by Matt Dillon’s obsessed character in There’s Something About Mary.

It feels to us like a lot of effort to give off potentially unwanted vibes. But each to their own!

The Porn-stache

As worn by: Will Ferrell in Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy

A real moustache of it times. This one was a staple of the 1970s and has since become associated with that era’s male porn stars. Choosing this for your face takes commitment and daily grooming. Carrying a comb with you everywhere is essential.

Recommended for those wanting to make a statement….we just aren’t sure exactly what that statement is…??

The Horseshoe-stache

As worn by: Ben Stiller in Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story

Named for its shape, this moustache is for those who almost want to commit to a full goatee, but fall short. A favourite among tough Bikies and associated with ex-aussie crim Mark “Chopper” Read. Choosing this one puts you in some dubious company, but we will respect your bravery. Not everyone can pull the horseshoe off.

The Beard-stache

As worn by: Samuel L. Jackson in Pulp Fiction

Part beard, part ‘stache….and all badass! Also known as “The Winnfield Style” after Samuel L. Jackson’s character in Pulp Fiction, this one incorporates the best of everything – is it a mo? is it a beard? are they sideburns? What exactly is going on here?

Perhaps it’s the mystery and complexity that makes this one desirable?
