5 Nepo Babies Who Are Taking Hollywood by Storm

Stephanie Musgrave,

You may have noticed there is currently a lot of dialogue around “Nepo babies” in Hollywood (short for Nepotism babies) and whether it’s unfair that these biologically blessed humans got a foot in the door due to their parentage, while other actors who are not so well connected have a more difficult journey.

We’ll let you be the judge of that, but we thought we’d take a look at the fresh Nepo babies who are currently crushing it, and whose onscreen performances we personally already can’t live without.

Zoe Kravitz

With effortless offscreen style and an impressive array of roles already under her belt (High Fidelity (2020), The Batman, Mad Max: Fury Road) Zoe really proved her acting chops as Bonny in HBO’s Big Little Lies, where she easily held her own alongside Hollywood heavy-hitters Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman. Her performance in the recent thriller Kimi, where she played an agoraphobic tech worker trying to unravel recorded evidence of a violent crime, has been touted as her best to date by many critics.

Maya Hawke

Catapulted into the limelight thanks to her performance in season 3 of Netflix’s Stranger Things, Maya quickly became a fan favourite. Her on point portrayal of Robin, the quick witted, multilingual ice-cream slinger working alongside Steve (Joe Keery) in Hawkins Starcourt Mall was a standout. She has also given notable performances as one of the Manson Family members in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019), and proved she can lead a film in Netflix’s fun teenage black comedy Do Revenge.

Margaret Qualley

An absolute star on the rise, and obviously blessed with her mother’s beauty, Margaret is already kicking serious goals in Hollywood. An Emmy and Critics’ Choice Nomination for her role in Fosse/Verdon, and an Emmy, Critics’ Choice, Golden Globe and SAG nomination for her performance in Netflix’s Maid. It’s in Maid where Margaret has proved beyond doubt that she has talent to boot, through her portrayal of Alex, a young mother having to find a job as a cleaner after fleeing an abusive relationship. Throughout this 10 part mini series, Margaret shows great range and depth, proving she has the talent to easily live up to her mother’s legacy.

Dakota Johnson

Best known for her role as Anastasia Steele in Fifty Shades of Grey, Dakota has also performed in a series of critically acclaimed films including The Lost Daughter, and sleeper hit – The Peanut Butter Falcon. Most recently she proved she can master period films, playing Anne Elliot in Netflix’s Persuasion, carrying the film with her cheeky nods to camera and charisma. However, our favourite and possibly lesser known performance of Dakota’s is in A Bigger Splash alongside Tilda Swinton and Ralph Fiennes. She plays the mysterious Penelope, daughter of extroverted music producer Harry (Fiennes) who crashes the holiday of ex lover rock star Marianne (Swinton) on a small picturesque Italian island. Johnson shines bright alongside these masters and positively explodes with onscreen magnetism.

Dan Levy

Not only did Dan Levy’s portrayal of character David Rose in Schitt’s Creek create enough cultural memes to last decades, but he also created the entire show alongside his father Eugene Levy. Schitt’s Creek has become an astronomical success with a cult following and slew of awards, including a Golden Globe and Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series. Levy is well and truly hot Hollywood property, with much anticipated writing and acting projects in the works.
